2017 ATB Tour of Alberta Touts New Format

This year marks the 5th Year of the Tour of Alberta, but the first year ATB becomes the official title sponsor.

The "ATB Tour of Alberta" happens September 1st-4th and the format is slightly different than it has been in the past.
According to Tour of Alberta CEO Duane Vienneau, the sport of cycling is changing and in order to drum up maximum interest, and follow suit with the general trend, they’re opting for a "Hub and Spoke" format.
Vienneau says keeping it regional like this ensures the longevity of the Tour, better economic focus and an easier experience for fans of the sport.
He says although the format is changing, it’s still going to look very familiar.
Jasper is the site for the first race on September 1st.
Vienneau says they’re looking at following a similar course as 2015, beginning in the Town and finishing up the ski hill, although no official track has been announce yet.
He says most of the days festivities will take place in the town, near the start line.
According to Vienneau, in the past, international TV viewership for the Jasper leg was the highest out of all Tour of Alberta tracks, which could play a positive role in showing off Alberta's beauty.
