RCMP Find Suspect in Headboard

On Monday Whitecourt RCMP were called to a rural property near range road 103 and township road 592.

After investigation they found an adult male was locked in the basement and his adult grandson had allegedly spread cardboard and firewood around the house, doused it with a flammable liquid and attempted to light it on fire.
Police say the grandson then stole his grandmothers vehicle and fled the scene. Whitecourt RCMP contacted the Peace Regional RCMP detachment, as they figured he was likely heading to Peace River.
Peace Regional RCMP found the stolen vehicle and obtained a warrant to enter a residence where they said the suspect was hiding inside the headboard frame in a bedroom. Officers report he was in possession of a hand made .22 pistol and the keys to the stolen vehicle.
Jayden Lochhead was taken into custody on multiple new charges as well as Outstanding Warrants from, Rocky Mountain House, Whitecourt, and Peace River.
He will appear in court later this month in all three jurisdictions.
